10-DIGIT LOCAL DIALING

10-digit local dialing is now mandatory in specific regions.

The huge growth in the popularity of phone services and technology that’s been experienced across the country over the last several years has led to an important increase in the demand for new phone numbers.

Therefore, all Cogeco Digital phone customers must always dial the 10-digit telephone number of the person they wish to reach, whether it is a local call or a long distance call anywhere in North America.

In order to meet this demand, 10-digit local dialing is the solution.

What is 10-digit dialing?

10-digit local dialing means that when dialing a local number, you’ll simply need to add the 3-digit area code to the 7-digit phone number you’ve always called.

For your safety and convenience, the 911 Emergency services number will NOT change in any way – it will still require that you dial only 3 digits (911).

In which regions will 10-digit dialing become necessary?

10-digit local dialing is now necessary for people living and working in the following regions:

418 Eastern Québec
450 Montréal’s surrounding regions
514 Island of Montréal
519 South-Western Ontario
613 Eastern Ontario
705 North-Eastern Ontario
819 Northern, Central and Western Québec

Where will the new area codes be added?

After October, two new area codes will be added to the 514 region in Québec and the 519 region in Ontario. The new area code numbers will be:

438 in Québec’s 514 region
226 in Ontario’s 519 region

Will your phone number change?

The new area codes will only be assigned to new telephone numbers and will coexist with the current area codes in the same regions. So your phone number will not change.
