Important changes to the HD Package structure with
Cogeco
Since the launch of Cogeco High Definition TV, a number of channels have been
added to the HD Theme Pack and HD Basic with no change to the packages or
pricing. In order to be able to continue to expand our HD offering, we have
developed a new HD fee structure that will allow for future HD channels to be
added at a fair price.
As of December 13, we will no longer offer the HD
Theme Pack or HD Basic packages. These will be replaced with a new
HD Access Fee. The monthly rate of this new HD package
will be $5.99.
Our simple HD Package
structure:
1. Start with the HD
Access Fee - $5.99 per month
With the HD Access Fee you have access
to the HD version of any standard definition channel with an HD equivalent as
long as you are subscribed to the standard definition channel. The HD Access Fee
is required to receive any HD service with Cogeco.
2. Subscribe to
additional HD Services:
HD Premium Pack - includes Discovery HD and
HDNet. These premium HD services offer unique programming not found with other
channels, these are channels that have no standard definition equivalent. While
there is a Discovery Channel in standard definition, it is not the same channel
as Discovery HD. Access original sports, movies and documentary programming -
$6.00 per month. |

Q: What is included with the
new HD Access Fee package?
A: The HD Theme Pack and HD
Basic will be replaced with an HD Access Fee at $5.99 per month. Customers who
pay the monthly HD Access Fee will be able to enjoy each of the HD versions,
available in their area, of standard definition channels they currently
subscribe to.
As new HD versions of standard definition channels are
launched, they will be added to the channel line-up available with the HD Access
Fee.
If you currently subscribe to the HD Theme Pack at $6.99 per
month, this will automatically be switched to the HD Access Fee service (you’ll
save $1 per month). There is no need to call to subscribe or switch.
All the channels currently available with the HD Theme Pack
and HD Basic will be included with the HD Access Fee, along with other new
channels scheduled to launch soon, including A&E HD and Showcase HD and even
more to come. The only exception is Discovery HD which has been on extended
freeview and is now only available in the Premium HD Pack. |

Q:
What happens to my
subscription to the HD Basic package?
A:
If you currently subscribe
to the HD Basic package you can continue to do so with no change to its current
structure. There will be no new channels added to the HD Basic service. Any
future channels launched will be added to the HD Access Fee. |

Q:
Can I still subscribe to my
HD Theme Pack as my theme pack choice with my Digital Select
package?
A:
Yes, you can continue to
subscribe to the HD Theme Pack as part of your Digital Select package theme pack
choice. You will not be required to switch to the HD Access Fee, but can do so
by contacting the Cogeco Customer Care department.
Any new HD versions of standard definition channels that are
launched will be added to the channel line-up available with the HD Access Fee
only and will not be added to the HD Theme Pack.
If you decide to make any changes to your packaging, you will
be required to convert to the HD Access Fee structure, though you can continue
with the current package you have if that suits your needs.

Q:
Do I still get the West
Coast HD feeds for the US networks with the HD Access fee, even if I don’t
subscribe to the Time Shifting Theme Pack?
A: Yes, as an additional
benefit to HD customers, we have decided to include the West Coast HD feeds of
NBC, CBS, Fox and ABC as part of the HD Access Fee, regardless of whether you
have selected the Time Shifting Theme Pack or not. |

Discovery HD had been made
available on a free preview basis and will now move to it’s normal package
location with the HD Premium Pack. This channel is a premium service not
available in standard definition format, and Cogeco is charged for it as a

Fee?
A:
The HD Premium Pack at $6.00
per month includes Discovery HD and HDNet. This package is not available in all
areas and is packaged and priced separately from the HD Access Fee service.
These channels are viewed as premium HD content with no coresponding standard
definition channel. Our cost to carry these two channels is also at a premium
rate when compared with other HD channels. |

Q:
Do I need to contact Cogeco
to subscribe to the HD Access Fee?
A:
If you have the HD Theme
pack as your theme pack choice with a Digital Select Package, you will need to
contact Cogeco to make the switch to the HD Access Fee. We have a current
promotion available that will allow you to receive the HD Access Fee FREE for
the first 6-months while also choosing a new theme pack to complete your Digital
Select package.
If you currently are on a promotion for the HD Theme Pack or
pay $6.99 per month for the HD Theme Pack, there is no need to contact Cogeco to
subscribe to the HD Access Fee. Your HD Theme Pack will be automatically changed
to the HD Access Fee at the new lower monthly rate of $5.99. If you are on a
monthly promo for your HD Theme Pack you will see this change at the end of the
promotional period. |

Q:
Why don’t I receive
Discovery HD or HDNet in my area?
A:
Due to limited network
capacity in some of our markets, we can only carry select HD channels. HD
channels require a greater network capacity, forcing us to carry the most
popular HD channels only in some areas. As capacity is expanded in various
Cogeco markets, we will add more HD channels to your HD Access Fee service at no
additional charge. |

Q:
How do I receive Mpix HD and
TMN HD?
A:
Both Mpix HD and TMN HD are
available with The Movies Package. The Movies Package includes 5 channels of The
Movie Network, 2 Mpix channels, TMN On Demand and the US Superstations. Mpix HD
and TMN HD are available FREE to subscribers of The Movies Package and the HD
Access Fee. These channels are not available in all areas. Please call to verify
availability in your area.

Q:
When will the HD Premium
Pack be available?
A:
As of December 13, the
Discovery HD free preview will come to an end. This channel will move to its
regular location within the HD Premium Pack. The HD Premium Pack will be
available for $6.00 per month, and will also include HDNet.
HDNet will be available on channel
274 starting December 13 and will have a free preview until February 13,
2007. HDNet offers more original music, sports, news and entertainment
programming than any other HD network. HDNet Movies brings you great movies and
HD premieres in their original aspect ratio – all 24 hours a day 7 days a week!
We are also offering the HD Premium Pack FREE for the first
two months, so call us after December 13 to subscribe. You will be able to
continue to receive Discovery HD FREE for an additional two-months with your
subscription to the HD Premium Pack – FREE till February 13. |

Q:
Is this just another attempt
for Cogeco to make more money off their customers?
A: No, this is a very logical
packaging structure that allows customer of standard definition channels to
receive the HD versions, if available, for one low fee. While we recognize that
this may not satisfy all of our customers’ needs and that this may result in an
increase for a minority of subscribers, most of our existing HD customers are
getting a $1 rate reduction and more channels.
As more HD versions of
existing channels are launched, they will be available to customers paying the
same $5.99 HD Access Fee. |
