Q:What's a magic eye?

A: A magic eye lets your decoder record programs on three different channels (one after the other). All VCRs less than two years old have this option. You can thus record three different programs while you are away. The magic eye will change the channel to record each program you have selected. If your VCR doesn't have a magic eye, you can buy a 'mouse' that will perform the above operation for it. This 'mouse' is available from specialized electronics shops.

Q: How come when there is an outage in the area, we are not automatically credited for the time we are without service?

A: Customers' use time is managed on an individual basis. If there is a power failure in your area, please contact us to see if you are eligible for a credit. Our subscription contract stipulates that if you miss service because of any scheduled upgrades to the system in your area, you will not be given any credits. This is because the work is being carried out to improve our service.

Q: Does it cost any more to use additional TV sets?

A: Depending on the services to which you currently subscribe, additional outlets may cost you as little as $1.00 more per month! If you bundle up your services, the total home package is very inexpensive. As an a la carte service, TOTAL HOME costs $7.99 per month.

Q: Why can't I get cable in my area yet?

A: COGECO normally deploys a cable distribution system in areas where public water and sewer systems are available. However, any group of customers prepared to defray the costs of deploying a system can send our office a written request to carry out a feasibility study.

Q: What is Multivision?

A: With this incomparable service, provided only by COGECO, everything is possible! Each person in your household can watch what he wants on his own TV. Enjoy the advantages of digital TV by having the regular cable signal sent to other TVs in your home, without the need for additional decoders. You can have up to four additional outlets in your home without additional costs (each outlet must be on a TV or sound system). And when you sign up for Multivision, you'll receive one free move each year. Multivision is available for our residential customers only.

Q: What packages are offered by COGECO?

A: COGECO offers a full range of packages to meet the needs of everyone in your household. Visit the following Internet site for full information: http://www.cogeco.ca.

Q: Why are rates different from one area to another?

A: Cable broadcasting rates are set by the CRTC. COGECO is making major investments to update its system. For the time being, it cannot offer the same channel choices throughout all of its territory. Customers are thus billed according to the rate schedule applicable to the area in which they live. Also, COGECO has built up its clientele through the acquisition of other systems, each of which had its own rate schedule. Because we can’t change the basic content and specific features of each system, rates will vary from one region to the next.

Q: If I buy a set top box, will it be replaced with any subsequent new models?

A: Should a new version of set top box be introduced, COGECO will not upgrade your existing purchased equipment. however, we do guarantee that your existing box will continue to deliver the services to which you currently subscribe for three years after purchase.

Q: Can I buy my decoder?

A: COGECO gives you the option of buying your decoder if you sign up for the digital service. The price is very reasonable and will give you savings on your monthly charges. This offer includes a 3-year warranty (against breakage and obsolescence) for the decoder and a 1-year warranty (same coverage) for the universal remote control. We also have a purchase plan for the cable modems used for our ultra-high speed Internet service.

Q: Are there additional costs for using additional TVs?

A: Yes, there are additional charges for using extra units. However, COGECO' Multivision lets you connect up to three additional units (including the FM receiver on your sound system). This service is available at an exceptionally competitive rate . With Multivision, you can watch a different channel on every TV in your home. Everyone can watch his favourite show at the same time! Enjoy the advantages of digital TV by having the regular signal sent to the other TVs in your home, without the need for additional decoders.

Q: What makes one bundle better than another?

A: COGECO wants to offer its customers a full selection to suit every preference. By looking at the content of each package, you can choose the one that best meets your needs and those of everyone else in your household.

Q: What is TOTAL HOME?

A: TOTAL HOME allows the customer to have multiple active outlets in the home. This allows each family member to view different analog channels on each television at the same time without the need for a set top box (which is required to receive digital services). Also, additional outlets can be used to connect your stereo to cable FM radio channels.

Q: Can I listen to radio over my cable?

A: Yes. You can connect a cable outlet to your sound system provided it has the right plug. Another advantage of Multivision is that it provides this service at a special rate. You'll love the quality of the reception it gives your favourite FM stations.

Q: Am I penalized if I cancel my subscription?

A: There are no penalties or other charges. However, we would ask you to please notify us 30 days in advance so COGECO can settle any outstanding charges on your account with the channel providers.

Q: Why don't I get a discount on installation fees when moving?

A: The amount you are billed for moving is the actual cost COGECO incurs to carry out the work involved. These costs are part of those you must assume when you decide to move.

Q: Why isn't digital TV available now where I live?

A: Digital TV requires the use of a fibre-optics system. A major upgrading program now underway in all of COGECO's territory will enable us to offer all our new services to our customers.

Q: Why is the expanded tier different from one area to another?

A: COGECO has begun to fully upgrade its system, but the capacity varies from one region to the next. The rate for the expanded bundle is established according to the number of available channels.

Q: Where can I find a description of the content offered by the available channels?

A: By browsing through any television guide available on the market, you'll get a good idea of each channel's content (e.g., names and descriptions of programs). You can check out the following Web sites that provide television guides: In French- http://horairetele.Infinit.net. In English- http://www.tvguide.ca
