Q:
What is High-Definition TV
(HDTV) and what are the advantages?
A:
HDTV provides pictures with
several times the clarity of DVDs and over 5 times the resolution of a regular
television picture. HDTV is the largest leap in TV technology since color TV
replaced black and white.
Color: HDTV provides vivid color,
including a wide range of hues (such as subtle purples and reds) without any
bleeding at the edges of the image.
Clarity/Detail: HDTV images are as detailed
as a high-resolution photograph. It is like looking through a window. When
watching a TV program in HD, you will be amazed at the sharpness of the picture.
You can even pick up the specks of different colors in an actor's eyes, or see
individual sweat drops on a football player-details you could never see through
regular television.
Wide-screen: HDTV allows you to view
content in a 16:9 wide-screen format, the same format used in movie theatres.
Current TVs use a 4:3 image, which cuts pictures off because it forces a wide
image into a narrow space.
Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound: All HDTV
programming can provide 5.1 channel Dolby Digital Surround Sound--just like true
theatre sound.
Note: HDTV and Dolby Digital 5.1
Surround Sound content is dependent on broadcaster |

 |
Q:
What is the difference
between HDTV and current Digital TV services?
A: Standard analogue TV and
digital TV pictures have very similar resolution. However, if an HDTV signal is
sent to an HDTV (or HDTV-ready) TV set, the picture will show 5 times the
resolution of normal TV pictures. |

Q:
What types of shows can I
watch in HDTV?
A:
Cogeco HDTV programming
includes a wide variety of prime-time U.S. Network TV shows, The Movie Network
movies and series, Viewer's Choice Pay Per View movies and events and live
sports broadcasts. HDTV and Dolby Digital Surround Sound content is dependent on
the broadcaster. |

Q:
Why are there black bars
around my television picture?
A:
You have a 4:3 (regular
shaped) HDTV television set that places black bars above and below the picture
when the HDTV Digital receiver is using its High Definition (Component - Y, Pb,
Pr) inputs (to show a 16:9 picture). When watching Standard Definition analogue
or digital channels through the HDTV Digital Terminal, it places bars on each
side of the picture to show the regular 4:3 picture. Thus, you see a picture
with a complete black frame around the outside.
To
enable yourself to view Standard Definition analogue and digital channels
full-screen, connect the conventional S-Video or composite (RCA) connections of
the HDTV receiver to the same inputs on your television. You can then choose the
Standard Definition input when watching regular programming and see the full
screen picture. For HDTV programming you need to use the High Definition input
and only see the Back bar at the top and bottom of the screen for the 16:9
wide-screen HDTV picture. |

A:

currently includes City-TV and CTV-Toronto is offered at no additional charge.
The HD theme pack , which includes the US networks,is $6.99/month and can be
added to any Digital Select Package. The HDTV Movie Network channel is available
free of charge to all Ontario HDTV customers who subscribe to the standard
definition Movie Network and rent or purchase an Advanced HD/DVR digital
receiver. The price for HD Pay Per View films will vary depending on the title
or event. |

Q:

on certain channels now that I have an Advanced HD/DVR Receiver -

combination of your menu settings and connection cables. See the chart for more details. |
