Q: Are repairs and service included
with satellite TV?
A: With satellite TV, it's a
little complicated. You will first have to figure out who to call if you
need service: the retailer you bought your dish from or the manufacturer?
If there is a picture quality problem you may have to call the installer
or the company that provides the programming, and you may have to purchase
a service contract or pay for an in-home service call. With cable, any
service calls related to the cable plant or equipment are free of charge.
With cable TV, you have one source for 24-hour customer service, with
repairs and service calls done by highly trained representatives, absolutely
free of charge. Cogeco, for example, has a fleet of local service vehicles
in all their markets plus 24/7 customer service -- even on weekends and
holidays! |

 |
Q: Is it true that weather can
affect reception of satellite TV signals?
A: Yes it is. For example, a
symptom called "rain fade" is a common problem with all satellite services.
This occurs when there is heavy rain, which can result in the obstruction
of the satellite signals and even blackouts of service. If the mini-dish
is installed improperly, these outages are even more likely to occur.
Also, accumulation of snow and ice during the winter months can reduce
the quality of your reception. |

Q: What if cable TV service isn't
available in my area?
A: If you are in a rural community
that does not have cable TV service, call us, as we may be expanding into
your area. |

 |
Q: Will I get a lot of different
U.S. networks with satellite?
A: The fact is that Canadian
satellite TV distributors can provide only the same U.S. services as Canadian
cable TV providers can. Furthermore, there are CRTC guidelines limiting
the amount of U.S. channels that can be provided by Canadian satellite
providers, which are the same guidelines for cable TV. For example, you
will not be able to receive U.S. networks like HBO and ESPN from Canadian
satellite TV providers. Before you make a decision about choosing satellite,
it's important to note that Cogeco already offers a wide variety of programming
and packages at a low monthly rate, including our Value Packs, where you
can save up to 20 percent. |

 |
Q: If I buy a dish, is all of
my programming included?
A: No. Once you have paid for
your dish and installation, you will need to purchase your programming,
which could cost over $600 annually. |

 |
Q: With a dish, will I receive
all the same channels I receive with cable?
A: You may not. For example,
the local weather, news, sports, and coverage of community activities
which you enjoy today with your cable service, may not be available on
satellite TV. Our Community Channels are a unique service with cable.

 |
Q: Can I hook up all my TV sets
to one dish?
A: Yes, but the same channel
will appear on all your sets, unless you purchase additional equipment.
To watch different programs on different TVs at the same time, you will
need to buy an additional receiver(s). With cable TV you receive both
analogue and digital signals, which allows your household to watch different
programs on different sets at the same time, without the need for an additional
set-top box(es). Also, Cogeco allows you to have up to 4 cable outlets
for one low monthly rate. |

 |
Q: Will a satellite signal reach
me anywhere?
A: Unfortunately, no. Unlike
cable TV, satellite TV is a "line of sight" technology. This simply means
that the dish needs a clear view of the satellite to receive the signals.
This often requires a prospective satellite buyer to perform a site evaluation
before purchasing, to ensure there are no obstructions in the neighbourhood.
At this time, the evaluator that has been hired will also determine if
it is possible to point the dish in the proper direction to get the best
signal. |

 |
Q: What exactly is satellite
TV?
A: Satellite TV is simply another
way of delivering multi-channel television. Today's most widespread method
is cable TV. Unlike cable TV however, satellite TV requires that you first
buy or rent a mini-dish and a receiver. The dish receives signals from
a satellite orbiting the earth and the receiver converts those signals
into the programming you will watch on your TV. |

 |
Q: What happens if I buy a dish
and a new model is introduced?
A: As we all know, the nature
of technology is that it is constantly evolving. While the satellite TV
dish you buy today may be state-of-the-art, as new technologies emerge
-- and you know they will -- you will have the choice of keeping your
expensive obsolete technology or buying new again. There's no risk with
cable TV. First, our warranty covers free equipment upgrades if your equipment
becomes obsolete. Second, Cogeco is constantly making improvements to
the quality of your picture and sound via our fibre optic network, without
any additional cost to you and without any need to change your equipment. |

Q: What is VOD or Video on Demand
and is it true that it's only available on Digital Cable?
A: Video
on Demand is an exclusive feature of Digital Cable that allows you to
rent movies for your living room. You can PAUSE, FORWARD, or, REWIND your
movies just like you would do with a DVD or VCR player, all opf this directly
from your remote. Video on Demand is NOT available with Satellite. Learn
more about VOD. |
