Q: What is the COGECO High
Speed Internet service?
A:
COGECO High Speed Internet
is a high-speed cable Internet service that delivers the Internet to your
computer using your cable wire instead of a phone line. It's the fastest
Internet service you can get for your home/business. Plus, you get a constant and
reliable connection that's always on and ready, with no dialing in or busy
signals. COGECO High Speed Internet offers everything you need to make the most
of the Internet. |

Q:
Do cable Internet customers
share the network?
A:
The downstream broadband
delivery is like a major highway: it is shared as a mean of distribution only,
the content remains isolated and secure. The actual packets of information are
delivered via dedicated time slots allocated specifically to you, and accessed
via your code and address only. No one else sees this information as it travels
the broadband to your home. |

Q:
Can I watch TV and use
COGECO High Speed Internet at the same time?
A: Yes. Neither television nor
COGECO High Speed Internet signals are affected by simultaneous use.

 |
Q:
How can I get the cable from
my TV room to my computer room?
A:
Since the data and the
television signals travel on the same physical cable, a simple cable splitter
will be needed to provide multiple connections. However, due to the potential
for introducing noise into the system, a cable technician will perform the
installation of the splitter and cable outlet in the secondary location. If
user-installed splitters or cabling are present, the technician will perform
quality assurance tests before deeming the service operational.

Q:
How fast is the COGECO High
Speed Internet network?
A:
Using a cable modem and
advanced caching and replication technologies, the COGECO High Speed Internet
service allows you to surf the Web at peak download speeds up to 100 times
faster than with a 28.8K modem, and over 20 times faster than DSL. For example,
a 3.5MB file that takes over three minutes to download using a traditional phone
line, or thirty seconds on ISDN, could take only two seconds on COGECO High
Speed Internet. |

Q:
How does the cable modem
connect to my computer?
A:
The cable modem is an
external device that connects to your computer via an Ethernet cable. You must
have a network card or Ethernet port in your computer for the modem to connect
to. |

Q:
If I don't subscribe to
cable, can I still get Internet access?
A:
Yes. Depending on your home
or apartment, a connection from the neighbourhood cable system to the desired
location within your home may be necessary. However, you are not obligated to
subscribe to the cable television service to receive the COGECO High Speed
Internet service. See our Web site for information on our exceptionally
competitive packages offering the full range of COGECO’s
services.. |

Q:
Does COGECO High Speed
Internet install new cable in my neighborhood?
A: We have modified and
upgraded the existing cable TV network to support two-way data. The process
involves adding signal amplifiers to create an upstream data channel from your
home to the cable TV head end. |

Q:
Does the Internet speed
depend on how many people share the cable line?
A: COGECO works diligently to
ensure that our connection points are balanced in terms of usage. Our High Speed
Internet network is constantly being optimized to ensure that you are getting
the speed you need 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Keep in mind that
performance is subject to routing on the Internet, speed of the host server you
are visiting and traffic load on the host server. In other words, you are only
as fast as the site you are connecting to. |
