Broadband
In general, broadband refers to data transmission in which a wide band of frequencies is available to transmit information.
 
Cable modem
A device that allows you to connect your PC to our High Speed Internet service. Cable modems are capable of transmitting data at very high speeds.
 
Download
When you receive files from one computer to your PC 
bandwidth has a general meaning of how much information can be carried in a given time period (usually a second) over a wired or wireless communications link.
 
Email Client
A program used to retrieve your email from the Internet and store it on your PC.
 
Firewall
A firewall is a program that prevents other people on the Internet from accessing your computer and your files.
 
Hub
A piece of hardware that can be used to network computers. Using a hub will allow you to connect up to three computers onto our high speed or High Speed Pro services.
 
IP Address
An IP address is a 32-bit number that identifies each sender or receiver of information that is sent in packets across the Internet.
 
NIC
Network Interface Card. Allows you to connect your computer to a network. A PC is connected to our High Speed Service by connecting a NIC to a cable modem.
 
POP Server 
This is the server that you send your email to in order for it to reach it's intended recipient on the Internet.
 
Protocol
A protocol is a special set of rules that computers in a network use when they communicate.
 
Router
A piece of hardware that can be used to network computers. together. Because a router shares the same IP address with all the computers, you can connect more than the three allowed on our High Speed or High Speed Pro services.
 
SMTP Server
This is the server that you send your email to in order for it to reach it's intended recipient on the Internet.
 
Upload
When you transmit files from your PC to another computer.
