Setup
of Windows NT 4.0 Workstation Dial-Up Access
Before the Remote Access Service and DUN can be installed/configured,
your computer must have the appropriate network settings.
Configure the network by following these steps:
Open the Network control panel by double-clicking
on the My Computer icon followed by the Control
Panel folder and double-clicking on the Network icon. The "Network" dialog
box appears:

The Computer Name and Domain/Workgroup are
not of any importance to connecting to the Internet. These
are used to identify the computer and local area network
grouping if the computer is part of a network.
Click
on the "Protocols" tab.
This page is used to specify the protocols that the
computer uses on the network.

Your computer will likely have other
protocols installed, such as NetBEUI. These protocols are not
used by COGECO and can be ignored. They should not cause any
issues connecting to the Internet.
If the TCP/IP protocol is not listed,
click the Add button to open the "Select
Network Protocol" dialog box, shown here:

The only protocol required on your computer is TCP/IP.
Other protocols may be present if you are using the computer
to access other networks.
Select "TCP/IP Protocol" from
the list and click OK to install the TCP/IP
protocol. The "Microsoft TCP/IP Properties" dialog box appears:

You don't have to specify an IP address. It
will be assing automatic when you connect to Internet.
Click
the "DNS" tab. Clear
any settings in this page. You don't have to set this because
all informations will be assing automatic when you will
connect to Internet.

Click OK to close the Network
control panel. The computer will ask you to restart your
computer.

is blank.
If
you wants your password and username saved for subsequent dial-ins,
check the "Save
password" checkbox. Please note that the next time
you click the Dial button in the "Dial-Up
Networking" window, RAS will automatically connect
without prompting for a username/password. To enter a
username and password again, you need to open the
Security tab in the phonebook entry and click the Unsave
password button.
Click OK to
dial. This opens a status box that indicates the connection status,
ranging
from "Dialing" to "Verifying username and
password". Upon a successful connection, the Dial-Up
Networking monitor (typically located in the icon tray)
will indicate a connection and state the speed of the
connection. If there are problems connecting, a dialog
box will appear indicating the problem and an error code.
To
disconnect, open the "Dial-Up
Networking" window and click the Hang-Up
button, or right click the Dial-Up Networking monitor in
the icon tray, move to Hang-Up and select the connection
by name.
