Q: I have a red "X" over the security icon that states "Spam control: Malfunction". I have not reconfigured anything. I have also checked the spam control which is still under "Optimal". Is there a problem with my computer or the security service?

A: The "Spam Control: Malfunction" problem is usually caused by the important file called backweb.exe being removed from the system by an Anti-Spyware program. Many Anti-Spyware programs will recognize backweb.exe to be spyware and remove it. To fix the problem, you will want to completely uninstall the Cogeco Security Services program and then reinstall it again. If you would like to use Anti-Spyware programs in the future, simply check the files that are reported to be spyware to ensure that backweb.exe is not listed. In the case that you have not used any Anti-Spyware programs to cause this issue, it would still be advised to uninstall and reinstall the security program. After the uninstallation is complete, simply log back into the security website again and the installation wizard will guide you back through the complete installation. For more information on backweb.exe, please visit http://support.f-secure.com/enu/corporate/supportissue/general/general-issue-2004040700.shtml
