SIX SIMPLE AND USEFUL TIPS TO ENSURE THE BEST SEARCH RESULTS

  The right question
gets the right answer…

The my.cogeco.ca Meta Search Engine simplifies your research and produces extremely accurate results at the same time. By narrowing your research, you will get fast and better focused results.

1 Choose your search terms carefully.
The words you choose will directly affect the results you get. Make sure the terms selected are as accurate as possible. For example, if you are looking for information on flat-screen monitors sold by ABC Inc., enter "ABC flat-screen monitors model 123" and not just "flat-screen monitors" or "ABC monitors."

2 Insert the correct spacing between words.
My.cogeco.ca Web Search takes into account each space you insert between the words you type. For example, if you type in "computer parts", it will post a list of computer equipment companies and sites. On the other hand, a search request for "computerparts" (with no spacing between the words) will generate similar but more specific results. For example, you might get the website "computerparts.com" as one of the top results displayed in your result page.

3 Enter words in the proper order
That may seem obvious, but the order of words in a search entry can make a great deal of difference when it comes to results displayed. For example, the entry "car show" will generate a list of events involving motor cars, while the entry "show car" will provide you with information dealing more specifically with the type of cars displayed at such an event.

4 Use inverted commas
If you know that the store you are looking for is called The Laptop King, then use inverted commas for your entry: "The Laptop King."

5 Categorize your search
In order to obtain narrower results, use the file category tabs (Audio, Video, etc.) located above the search text field.

6 Use the "Advanced Search" or "Preferences" features
Our Meta Search Engine comes with "Advanced Search" features that allow, amongst other things, the use of filters by domain, language or date. The "Preferences" features allow you to customize your default search settings.
